But the third-generation owner of Parsons Roofing said he wants to add a new attraction each year, and he already is plotting his next move.
“I’m talking with a zip-line company and they’re supposed to come out and give me a bid next week,” Parsons, 41, said during a phone interview Friday.
Zip lines, as enthusiasts know, give riders a thrill as they zip from one end of an inclined cable to another while gripping a moving pulley.
Parsons opened his recreation area at 5347 Old Mexia Road last summer, tapping into an abundance of land and small lakes to produce a getaway for families craving fun and a challenge. But he said he has merely scratched the surface of his imagination.
He recently opened a Lazy River attraction that beckoned guests to float aboard blue innertubes in a meandering waterway.
Parsons wants to improve the experience by installing pumps that will create a steady flow and lining the riverbed with a stabilizing material, making it more visually appealing.
“At 3,600 feet, it will be the longest Lazy River-type ride in the world, as far as I can tell,” Parsons said.
But Parsons’ wish list does not stop there. He also envisions a manmade wave pool and an indoor trampoline park.
“This is my motivation to sell more roofs,” Parsons said. “I like to see people have fun and I’ll probably devote myself to this project the rest of my life.”
Besides the 2,200-foot-long wakeboarding course, the park has cabins and a bar and grill.
BSR Cable Park represents one component of Parsons’ entrepreneurial domain. The other is the 500-acre Parsons Whitetail Ranch in Valley Mills.
He raises whitetail deer and owns several bucks available for breeding at the complex, which features 20 breeding pens, a laboratory and a hunting lodge.
A semen straw from one of his studs can fetch $2,000, and a buck with a quality DNA-tested bloodline may sell for as much as $150,000, Parsons said.
He said his game ranch and whitetail breeding enterprise are for his family, friends and clients. He opened the cable park with the public in mind.
“I’m overwhelmed at how well it has done, with visitors from Houston, Dallas, Austin and other states,” he said.
The facility in May hosted the first leg of the Monster Energy Wake Park Triple Crown, an event of the World Wakeboard Association.
Tournament organizer Ashley Parsons, who is Stuart Parsons’ cousin, said the association approached the Parsonses about taking part in the event.
“We were definitely on board because it brings so many pros here from all over the country to see our park,” she said.
BSR Cable has found itself in the middle of the state’s growing love affair with wakeboarding. At least three new cable water-ski parks have opened in the Dallas area in the past two years, while San Marcos has long had the Texas Ski Ranch cable park, Stuart Parsons said.
The Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo now underway in Waco includes a wakeboard stunt exhibit sponsored by Parsons’ cable park.
